El Scopitone es el primer antecedente directo del videoclip. Después de la caída del “Panoram“, un aparato que reproducía ochos cortos musicales de 3 minutos que se ponían en una sola cinta, surge alrededor de 1960, un nuevo aparato que reproducía filmes a color y daba al consumidor la libertad de hacer selecciones específicas de sus canciones. Es el ya mencionado, Scopitone. Los videos musicales de aquella época tenían una máxima clara: ilustrar la canción y hacerlo de manera sexy.
Si surgió el Scopitone fue como reclamo para que el público acudiera más a los bares, ya que éste se encontraba demasiado enganchado a la recién inventada televisión y no salía demasiado de casa en su tiempo libre.
