More Candy for the Eye – and your Electronic Gear

New for Christmas and the New Year is an expanded redmaloo™ range of accessories for modern electronic gear.
The company’s trademark orange and grey felt laptop sleeve line, handmade from 100% felt, has been expanded to include funky new colors such as lush pink, lime green and bright red and magenta. Handmade shoulder bags in the same material and various colors are now also in production.

Also new for the New Year is the range of 100% wool felt iPod and mice pouches (€29) in a range of eye-grabbing colors.

The redmaloo concept is to be minimal, traditional and modern all at the same time, taking traditionally crafted materials (felt and kimono) and re-introducing them into modern life in appropriate forms, e.g. laptop sleeves.

“We’re not trying to be new. If anything we’re trying not to be. Laptops and the bags that carry them aren’t new for very long. In fact, things today are new for a shorter amount of time than ever. We use traditional materials, and challenge them. We show our love for traditional crafts by modernizing them. We take practical things and aestheticize them. We want to use old production facilities and revitalize them. We want to know the people who produce our things. We want them to know us. The world seems to be getting smaller so our designs need to become smarter. Otherwise, everything looks like everything else.”
Katja & Jula, redmaloo 2006
For the past eight years, designer Katja Hettler and architect Jula Tüllmann have been part of the international design community in New York and Paris. Now based in Berlin, hettler.tüllmann have launched redmaloo, their own collection of well-designed, totally fresh solutions for modern life, including a big splash of color and creativity for the grey season.
“We all have very busy, exciting lives with many responsibilities. The tools that make it possible — laptops, mp3 players, cell phones — go with us everywhere. The redmaloo series offers modern solutions for organization and efficiency that also looks great”
hettler.tüllmann were selected by YoNoBI of Japan to design a collection of modern products in “traditional craftworks.” Their first laptop cover, made from traditional Japanese kimono fabrics, was presented at Ambiente Lifstyle Fair in 2004 in Tokyo
Following up on the YoNoBI edition, maloo, the minimal m1-felt cover series, delivers design and function to maximum effect. The laptop sleeve is one layer of high-quality felt that folds around your laptop for safe protection and transportation. Unfolded, it functions as a workstation with an integrated mousepad.
